Carrying over from last weeks discussion on the importance of a formal Seminary education, Ryan zero's in on the Biblical requirement that a Pastor be "able to teach." And the best way to do that is a good old fashioned sermon review (or two). Make sure your straight jacket is buckled extra tight for the first sermon, it goes off the rails almost from the start. Is it enough to drive Ryan mad? Can he bring us back from the brink of madness to orthodox preaching? Click that play button and find out why Ryan and Bill call this show The Gospel "Asylum."

We have a Guest!!! On today's episode I am joined by Pastor Martin Herzberg of Zion Lutheran Church in Lahoma Oklahoma. Pastor Martin and I talk about the importance of formal Seminary training in preparation for becoming an Ordained Pastor. Craziness abounds (as Pastor Martin and I are old friends) and the ultimate answer to everything is revealed... Jesus. We dedicate this episode to Seminarian Elect Bill, and continue to bring him and his family to the Lord in prayer as they travel.

What happens when a Baptist tries to "save" a Roman Catholic? A Catholic lecture, that's what! On this weeks episode, Ryan goes through an interesting lecture by a former Baptist turned Roman Catholic. Are the Lutherans wrong? Are we indeed "justified by works and not by faith alone?" (James 2:24) Does the Bible really say that? Tune in as Ryan asks the ultimate question of that verse: "What does this mean?" Honestly, what other question would a Lutheran ask? Faith and Works face off on this weeks Gospel Asylum!

And... we're back at it! Thank you so much for waiting during our unannounced break. On this week's episode, Bill is packing up and moving in the next few days to begin his journey at Concordia Theological Seminary. So Ryan goes "rogue" and wrestles with Pulpit and Pen for refusing to make themselves known as Christians by their love. I mean, what's the deal with the Orthodox Church of the East anyways? Do the doctrinal issues present in Eastern Orthodoxy merit cruelty from the rest of Christendom?

On this week's episode, we talk to Pr. Neil Wehmas about Ash Wednesday, Lent, and Holy Week. We touch upon their history, the liturgy surrounding them, how we observe them, what Lent has to do with baptism, and most importantly, why any of this matters.

On today's episode, we celebrate our (belated) one year anniversary! In order to do this properly, we've brought on three Combat Veterans to talk about their own Roads to Wittenberg: where they started, why they started down the "Lonely Way," and what differences they see between where they were and the Confessional Lutheran Church. We also provide details for our latest drawing. Thank you so much to all our listeners who have made our first year a bigger success than we could ever have imagined!

On today's episode, we walk through a number of texts related to Scripture's teaching on the doctrine of Baptism. We also address many common arguments made by Sacramentarians against the Bible's teaching on this topic, as well as touch upon Rip Its Energy Drinks, the baptism of infants, the definition of faith, and the materialistic worldview which dominates discussions on this topic.

Today we finish the remainder of our interview with Matthew Garnett (if you missed that episode, check the links below), host of In Layman's Terms. While still in the context of the 7 Sacraments of American Christianity, we hit a ton of sub-topics from evangelical worship to LGBT issues, from loving our neighbors to the real hope for those trapped on the pendulum of pride and despair.

Despite a number of audio problems (our apologies!), we begin a two-part series with Matthew Garnett, a former Evangelical pastor, about the 7 Sacraments of Pop, North American Christianity. On this episode we will seek to answer: what these "sacraments" are, where did they come from, and why has Ryan thwarted our purpose?

On today's episode, we ask the question "What is the Gospel?" In order to answer this most central question we listen to two very different presentations, one by a Baptist and one by a Lutheran.
